With its unique fusion of modern British and Burmese cuisine, it has quickly earned a reputation as a must-visit spot for food lovers. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, the warm ambiance, creative menu, and attention to detail make Lahpet Larder a standout.

Stepping into Lahpet Larder, you’re greeted with an inviting and contemporary space. The minimalist design, with its warm wooden accents and soft lighting, creates a relaxed yet sophisticated environment. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in comfortably for a leisurely meal, whether you're catching up with friends or enjoying a solo lunch.

The menu at Lahpet Larder offers an exciting array of dishes that showcase the flavors and techniques of Burmese cooking, but with a fresh twist. For those unfamiliar with Burmese food, it might feel like a whole new world of tastes, but it’s accessible and approachable. A standout on the menu is the Lahpet Thoke, a Burmese tea leaf salad that’s packed with crunch, spice, and tanginess, and it’s a perfect introduction to what this restaurant is all about. The ingredients are thoughtfully sourced, and each dish bursts with bold flavors.

One of the highlights at Lahpet Larder is their use of traditional Burmese ingredients, combined with modern cooking methods. The restaurant embraces a concept of “clean” cooking-simple yet flavorful dishes that don't overwhelm the palate. The menu changes seasonally, so there’s always something new to try. But if you’re lucky enough to visit when the Tamarind Duck is on the menu, it’s an absolute must-try. This dish combines tender duck with a rich tamarind glaze, creating a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and savory flavors. Each bite is a harmonious explosion of taste.

But it’s not just the main dishes that impress; Lahpet Larder’s appetizers and sides are equally creative and mouthwatering. The fried chickpeas with garlic and chili, for example, are a delightful snack to nibble on while waiting for your main course. The balance of heat and garlic in each bite keeps you coming back for more. And the fermented tofu dip, served with crispy vegetables, offers a creamy, umami-packed starter that complements the rest of the meal beautifully.

For those who prefer a lighter or vegetarian option, Lahpet Larder excels in offering plant-based dishes that don’t compromise on flavor. Their vegetable curry, made with a medley of fresh seasonal vegetables, is a comforting yet flavorful choice. The curry’s richness comes from a delicate blend of spices, making it both satisfying and nourishing.

When it comes to drinks, Lahpet Larder doesn’t just serve typical soft drinks or standard wines. The drink menu features a selection of creative cocktails and beverages that pair perfectly with the food. The Tamarind Mojito, with its sweet and tangy kick, is an excellent choice to complement the vibrant flavors of the dishes. There’s also a curated list of wines and local craft beers, making sure there’s something for everyone.

  • Absolutely love all their dishes I’ve tried so far! A few weeks ago my partner and I were suppose to go out to celebrate, but I wasn’t feeling well. So we ordered in from here instead and it was incredible! They packaged their take away so carefully and it was so delicious- and still warm- when it arrived. This restaurant deserves to be enjoyed in-person, but if you must order take away, you won’t be disappointed.

  • Superb food, bursting with flavour and sensations (with the exception of the deserts). The ambience of the dining area was sublime with an effortlessly relaxed atmosphere, which was in contrast to the pedestrians silently flowing by along Bermondsey Street without so much as turning a head to glance in. How much they are missing. Sam was genuinely helpful, describing the sharing concept and suggesting dishes that would complement each other. The couple of starters and couple of mains, together with a couple of sides, appeared in an irregular order, which made commencing / waiting a bit of a decision to be pondered over. As we had both starters (sweet potato and tofu puffs with chilli and tomato salsa and sweetcorn and split pea fritters with tamarind dip), one main (salmon ceviche) and one side (ginger salad), we got stuck in. Puffs were pleasing sensation when scooping up the tasty salsa. The warm, lightly crispy, squidgy fritters were made even better by the exceptional tamarind dip. The ginger salad was a bowl of surprises. There were many sensations stimulated by the crunchy, sweet, yet on times hot, mixtures of textures and flavours. We enjoyed it so much we nearly ordered a bowl of the intriguing oickled tea leaf salad, but we were filling up nicely by that time. The salmon was a stunning contradiction. Chilled, raw salmon had a significant heat from the chilli. With the shredded mango and papaya, this was brilliant, if you don't mind uncooked fish. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't like such so I did the dutiful thing and devoured this beauty alone. Before finishing the above, the chicken coconut noodles and the steamed rice arrived. Wow. Enough said. The deserts were disappointing, being bland and tasteless. Doughnuts and sago pudding. But don't let that put you off going. Be aware that the 1st-table 50% discount only applies to food and not drinks, which then accounted for 20% of the bill for a coffee and pineapple and coconut spritz. Still, including 8% service charge and £1 welcome donation to Medical Action Myanmar, £54.90 was tremendous value for an excellent first experience of Burmese cuisine. Do visit.

  • We tried most of the menu as shared it all. It was all fantastic. I marginally preferred the ginger salad while my friends preferred the tea leaf salad. For me the Seabass special was a standout. Though the sauces for both the prawn and beef curries were uniquely flavourful. Both desserts were great, though the sauce with the dough stick was something else. We were too busy inhaling the food and wine for many pictures which I now regret. Staff also comped a dessert for the birthday girl which was very much appreciated.

  • Came by myself on Friday around 19.50 without booking. The restaurant was quite packed. I asked the waitress to introduce the signature dish in Coconut Noodle was one of them. It tasted good almost similar to Malaysia Laksa noodle but less spicy and greasy. Even though I wasn’t quite hungry the coconut noodle with the lemon opened my appetite and made finished almost everything including the soup. The egg noodle was correctly cooked and chicken came in fair amount. The house tea kinda smoothed down the coconut and flavorful soup. Since the coconut noodle soup opened up my appetite I ventured myself in trying the Coconut Padan Sago Pudding. It was surprisingly mild in sweetness contrary to what I was expecting would be very sweet. There was fresh coconut meats which made even more interesting. I finished it all and it filled completely up my stomach. The service was very fast. The men who sat two tables away spoke quite loud. It was a noisy environment for a quiet solo person.

  • We had the most wonderful experience at Lahpet Larder in Bermondsey today. The restaurant itself is so cute, warm, intimate, and with such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, with great customer service that made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely fabulous, beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. The standout for me was the ginger salad, oh my goodness, what a perfect balance of crunchy, sweet, spicy, and sour! Truly unforgettable. And the house iced tea was so tasty and refreshing! the perfect drink to go with the meal. We loved everything about this place and will definitely be back soon!
